On Monday, December 16th the RCRHA hosted their 3rd annual Cookies, Cocoa, and Coats with Santa festival ending on Thursday, December 19th after successfully bringing cheer and families together in the Holiday spirits. In the 3-county area and on 7 sites at this event the kids were able to take a picture and write letters to Santa and in return Santa gave out bags of treats filled with cookies, brownies, and cocoa, take an angel ornament home with them to decorate and put on their own tree and coats for warmth. Cookies, Cocoa, and Coats with Santa was a great turnout and everyone had a wonderful time. We had about 350 kids come through and get their pictures taken with Santa and or grab a treat bag filled with cookies or brownies with cocoa.

This is the 4th year that the RCRHA has hosted this event for the tenants to get them ready for the Holidays. All 7 sites participated in this year’s event in our 3-county area and there were 3 winners on each of our sites. All received a gift card. Enjoy photos from the Gaston and Weldon sites.

On March 14, 2024, RCRHA Employees and Tenants participated in a Homeownership Training present by the State Employees Credit Union.

To prevent bullying and promote self-esteem, the Roanoke Chowan Regional Housing Authority worked with the children and families of all the communities of which they serve to showcase its first annual ‘You Wear It Well Winter Fashion Show. This event encouraged the children and others to take pride in themselves and where they live. The show allowed the children and families to build confidence and inspired them to be the best version of themselves regardless of their current circumstances.

The goal of this event is to inform and educate participants, as well as providers, about the diverse community resources and health related services within our community. CADA offered this event each year for twenty-five years prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are excited to sponsor it once again. This event offers service area partners an opportunity to reach over 300 people accessing community services. We offer free food, door prizes, and the opportunity for our community members to have access to 35+ local service providers. This is a great opportunity for participants and a great networking opportunity for partners.

RCRHA partners with the Gospel Travelers of Garysburg with Grover Rooks. This was the second year for coat donations and the first year for the food drive. The residents in Garysburg enjoying their new/gently used attire on this cold, dreary day.
